 Suspect in Dnipro police officers’ murder case detained for two months

The court ruled two months in pretrial detention facility for Oleksandr Puhachov charged with the murder of two patrol officers in Dnipro City.

Spokesperson for the National Police Main Directorate in the Dnipropetrovsk region Hanna Starchevska said, Censor.NET informs citing Ukrinform.

"Puhachov will spend 60 days in a pretrial detention facility. This decision was made by the Shevchenkivskyi district court of Dnipro City," Starchevska said.

As reported, a traffic law violator shot a patrol officer dead and wounded his female partner in Dnipro City Sunday morning. According to preliminary information, the patrol crew stopped a Citroen car for violation of traffic rules. The driver began to resist the police officers, made a few shots, and fled the scene. Patrol officer Artem Kutushev died on spot, while his female partner officer Olha Makarenko did not survive a surgery.

Later, the interior minister confirmed detention of a suspect in the murder in a hospital where he addressed for treatment of a gunshot wound caused by Kutushev. The suspect is former Tornado fighter, previously convicted Oleksandr Puhachov. He has been served a notice of suspicion for murder of two police officers in Dnipro City, however, refuses to testify.

Tragic footage from the chest camera of murdered police officer Artem Kutushev was uploaded online later. The Interior Ministry says they will not publish the entire camera record for ethical reasons.
