Money for Manafort was most often received by former Party of Regions MP Kaliuzhnyi, - MP Leshchenko

Petro Poroshenko Bloc MP Serhii Leshchenko believes former adviser of Viktor Yanukovych Paul Manafort might be able to add missing details to criminal investigation against former Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych.

Leshchenko noted that the records of the so-called 'slush fund' of Party of Regions, provided earlier by former deputy SBU head Viktor Trepak to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), feature current campaign leader of presidential candidate Donald Trump Paul Manafort. Manafort is mentioned 22 times in the list of funds allocation between Nov. 20, 2007, and Oct. 5, 2012, and, according to the records, he received $12.7 million over this period of time, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

The MP stressed that the record entries mentioning the U.S. political expert are signed by former Party of Regions MP Vitalii Kaliuzhnyi.

"It turned out that the majority of times, namely nine, the money [for Manafort - ed.] was received by Party of Regions people's deputy Vitalii Kaliuzhnyi, who headed the parliamentary foreign affairs committee in the previous parliament. He is close with Borys Kolesnikov and Andrii Kliuiev," Leshchenko is quoted by Ukrinform.

"There exist documents indicating that Mr. Manafort was involved in drafting of a report by Scadden company on the case of Yuliia Tymoshenko during Yanukovych's tenure. There exist documents that indicate Mr. Manafort checked the report personally, edited it prior to its publication, and made recommendations on its content," Leshchenko said at a news conference in Kyiv on Friday.

According to the MP, this episode should be investigated separately. Leshchenko believes that if Mr. Manafort was interrogated by the investigation on the Scadden case, "he could have provide details that lack for convicting of Mr. Lavrynovych."

Earlier, Petro Poroshenko Bloc (PPB) MP Serhii Leshchenko and journalists Anton Marchuk and Sevhil Musaieva-Borovyk published part of the documents proving the existence of Party of Regions' slush fund. According to the materials, the Party of Regions spent $66 million on political corruption over the second half of 2012.

Even earlier, ex-Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Viktor Trepak said he had given the information about Party of Regions' slush funds to the NABU.
