Juncker's words on possibility of Ukraine’s accession to EU not earlier than in 20-25 years have no political sense - Schersky

The words of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker that Ukraine will join the EU only in 20-25 years should not be taken for granted as he will not be heading the EU by that time.

Minister for Foreign Policy in the Office of the President of Poland Krzysztof Schersky said during a joint press conference with Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yelisieiev in Warsaw on Friday, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"The political statements of any politician, which go beyond his tenure, decline in importance. This statement has no political meaning as it goes beyond his term," Schersky said journalists' questions.

He also noted that Poland was a "lawyer of Ukraine's choice" of European integration.

"Europe cannot close its door to Ukraine. Ukraine is the European state and its European choice was conscious," Schersky said.

He emphasized that the visa-free regime would be substantial addition to Kiev's European choice while Poland expected Ukraine to receive it as soon as possible.
