In her interview with Radio Liberty, Vasilieva noted that "Cargo-200 from Ukraine to Russia" group was launched on August 21. As of September 02, more than 13,500 members subscribed, Censor.NET reports.
The purpose of the group is to accumulate information about Russian soldiers killed and missing in Donbas.
Elena Vasilieva has been analyzing messages posted to the group, as well as data received from media and volunteers. Based on this information, she estimated the number of Russian soldiers killed since August 25, after the Russian military units invaded the territory of Ukraine.
"From what the members have been reporting, it appears that more than 2,000 people [died] in August alone for sure," Vasilieva said.
However, she was unable to provide an estimate asto the total number of Russian citizens killed throughout the period of conflict in eastern Ukraine since April this year.
